1) ARE YOU IGNORING YOUR FOREIGN VISITORS?
Have you ever received an email written in a foreign language? If you only speak and understand English, what did you do with that email? Delete it?
Always keep in mind that your web site can be viewed by potential customers/clients all over the world, and though your web site may be in English, pictures can speak a thousand words and may compel foreign web surfers to inquire about your products or services.
The next time you receive an email written in a foreign language, use technology to translate the email to English. Then reply in English, and use technology to translate your email back to the appropriate foreign language. Though the translation may not be perfect, at least you will be able to get a general understanding of what the email says, and hopefully your potential client will get a general understanding of your reply.
Every time I reply to an email in French, German or Spanish, I think to myself, "What a wonderful time we live in. I received an email from a person half way around the world that I don't even know, in a foreign language I don't even speak, yet we can communicate!"

Gaining and retaining eCommerce customers is the subject that is perplexing some of the keenest minds of our time. Huge amounts of money is being spent on building sites that are worthless in next to no time.
So how does one gain and retain eCommerce customers. I believe it will be like the old corner shops! - Why did we go to store x y z and not abc, even when we knew they did not always offer the best deal ? Wasn't it because :
1. it was convenient,
2. there were always special offers,
3. we were always treated as individuals,
4. we felt part of a community,
5. we picked up a bit of gossip,
6. The shopkeeper was usually a sociable type.
So how do we translate this view of the world to the internet? Isn't it simple:
1. Give your site a simple name,
2. Offer your internet customers special deals- customers always want to feel special,
3. Allow clients to customise your site to their needs. Treat them like individuals,
4. Make them feel part of a community by allowing them to talk to each other as well as listen to you,
5. Give them gossip and news,
6. Give them humor they'll like you for it!
